Here’s an unusual find – a very good condition Gibson Les Paul Standard in Pelham Blue, built as a 2016 model and dating to the last day of 2015.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard appeared as a 1958 model and introduced Gibson’s new humbucking pickups. Prior to this, the Les Paul had been available in several forms – the Les Paul, Les Paul Custom, Les Paul Special and Les Paul Junior. All of those used P90 pickups except the Custom, which carried an AlNiCo ‘Staple Top’ pickup in the neck position.
The Special and Junior were simplified, Mahogany slab-bodied models but the original Les Paul, the Custom and the new Les Paul Standard carried a carved top. On the Custom, the top was carved of Mahogany, while the others carried a carved Maple cap. This worked well with the Standard’s new sunburst finish.
The Pelham Blue colour was derived from a 1960’s Cadillac finish, and has appeared on a number of Gibson models.
This Gibson Les Paul Standard in Pelham blue is in great condition, with very light wear. It’s factory equipped with Grover locking Roto-Matic tuners, which really speed up string changes, and has a pair of Burstbucker Pro™ humbuckers. There is one small pressure mark on the back which has not broken the finish, and otherwise it’s very clean.
The original hard shell case is included.
