❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Standard Desert Burst, 2008

The Gibson Les Paul Standard appeared six years after the 1952 introduction of the Les Paul model, then available only in gold top with a pair of P-90 pickups. For the 1958 model year, Gibson started using their new humbucking pickups, and offered a translucent sunburst finish over a carved, figured maple cap. While beautiful and now highly sought after, these models did not initially sell and were completely reworked into what we now know as the SG for the 1961 model year.

Finished in a nitrocellulose lacquer Desert Burst sunburst, this Gibson Les Paul Standard was built at Gibson’s Nashville plant and dates to June 12th, 2008. It features a chambered, weight relieved Mahogany body with lightly flamed Maple cap, Mahogany for the asymmetrical-profile neck and Indian Rosewood for the bound fingerboard. For hardware, it’s equipped with locking Grover Roto-Matic tuners, which are a real bonus when changing strings. Similarly, the tune-o-matic style bridge and tailpiece are TonePros locking models so they won’t fall off during string changes, upsetting action adjustments.

Electronics include BurstBucker Pro pickups and the standard individual volume and tone setup with a Switchcraft pickup toggle switch, but the output jack is an inset Neutrik locking connector. BurstBucker Pro pickups add Alnico 5 magnets to the BurstBucker design, and have deliberately mismatch-wound bobbins to replicate 1950’s characteristics.   

This Gibson Les Paul Standard is in overall good condition with just light wear, mostly light scuffing on the back. Fretwear is light. It plays well and the asymmetrical neck profile is quite comfortable. Visually, I like the Desert Burst finish, which is reminiscent of a naturally faded late 1950’s sunburst and shows off the Flame Maple nicely.

The original Gibson hard shell case, black exterior with white lining, is included.
