The Gibson Les Paul Standard is one of the most recognizable guitars in the world, particularly when it carries the Cherry sunburst finish. Introduced in 1952 as Gibson’s response to rapidly rising interest in the electric guitar, especially models that would not feed back with rising stage volumes.
Here we’re looking at a Gibson Les Paul Standard with meaningful weight relief, built at the Gibson plant in Nashville and dating to April 22nd, 2009. Like other Standards, it has a book-matched Flame Maple top on a Mahogany back, with Mahogany for the asymmetrical-profile neck and Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard. The weight relief makes this unusually light for a Les Paul, at just under 7.8 pounds. The nitrocellulose lacquer Cherry sunburst finish works very well with the arched, figured top.
For hardware, this Gibson Les Paul Standard features locking Chrome-plated Grover Roto-Matic tuners, with a clear backplate covering circuit-board mounted electronics and a Neutrik locking output jack. The pickups are stock BurstBuckers with Chrome plated covers. A standard Chrome tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece set round out the hardware. The pickguard was never installed, and at this point Gibson had stopped drilling the pick guard holes, as so many people removed them.
This Les Paul Standard is in great condition, with very little wear. It has been played, but fret wear is very light and there are no noticeable dents, scrapes or scratches in the finish. It plays well, and is very resonant.
The original hard shell case is included.
