One of the classic, classy guitars, the Gibson Les Paul Custom in gloss black finish was finished as if dressed in a tuxedo, ready for the most formal affair. Ultimately it has been used in all genres, from formal jazz and concert venues, to country stages, to punk rock basements and everywhere in between.
For its initial 1954 appearance, the Gibson Les Paul Custom differed somewhat from the 1952 Les Paul models in a manner not visible to the eye. Under the black finish was a solid Mahogany body with carved top, instead of a carved Maple cap on a mahogany slab. This construction continued for most Les Paul Custom models until 1961, when the line was completely revamped into what we now call the SG. When the original Les Paul design re-emerged in 1968, the Custom received the standard Maple cap.
Here we have a very nice Gibson Les Paul in the classic black finish with gold hardware. It dates to August 5th, 1997 at the Gibson Nashville plant. This guitar is in good overall condition with light to moderate scuffing and plating wear. Fret wear is light, and the fingerboard is Ebony – current models use a Richlite fingerboard. The original truss rod cover, which would read ‘Les Paul Custom’ is unfortunately missing and has been replaced with a blank Gibson cover. It plays well, and has the unmistakable sound of a Les Paul.
The original brown hard shell case is included.
