The Gibson Les Paul Custom in Black is an iconic and aspirational guitar, used in every genre where solidbody models are accepted. When introduced as the ‘Black Beauty’ in 1954, the idea was that it would be appropriate for a guitarist dressed in a tuxedo. It’s stayed at the top of the line, but has been used by punk bands as well.
Dating to May 28th 1981 and built in Nashville, a few years before the move from Kalamazoo was complete, this Gibson Les Paul Custom is in overall good and undamaged condition. It has had a modification very common for the 1980’s and 1990’s – the original pickups have been replaced with DiMarzio Super Distortions. This guitar has been played, and fret wear is light to moderate. The finish has honest play wear and a few small chips and dings around the guitar. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is aging nicely. And there’s a sticker on the back reading ‘Capitol Records Guest’! This guitar plays well, and has that 80’s Les Paul look.
The original Gibson hard shell case is included.
