This Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960 Reissue sporting in GoldTop finish and ‘1960’ stamped creme pick guard, is built during 2005 at the Nashville plant.
Built to refer to the 1960 version of the Les Paul Standard, the 2005 Les Paul Classic features a slim taper neck and very little weight relief.
The Gibson Les Paul Classic follows the usual pattern of a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany back, set Mahogany neck and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The carve of the top is a little more pronounced than the slightly flatter R series, and the neck is slimmer. The pickups on the Les Paul classic tended to be a fairly high output, and here a 490R and 490T pickup pair is installed. The wiring is basic Gibson style with individual volume and tone controls and selector switch. There are no push-pull pots. The pot backs are stamped ‘Gibson’, and mounted on a metal grounding plate. Some extra copper foil shielding has been added to the control cavity. Schaller strap locks have been added.
Overall, this 2005 example is in good condition with light buckle rash and minor fret wear. The GoldTop finish shows some natural lacquer checking primarily on the treble side, and there is some light play wear on the bass side of the strings.
Here is what the builder says about the Gibson Les Paul Classic:
“The Gibson Les Paul Classic combines the early 60s style Les Paul model with some functional and time-tested modifications. As expected, the Les Paul Classic is crafted with a mahogany back and maple top coupled with a SlimTaper™ mahogany neck and a bound, rosewood fingerboard. 490R and 490T open-coil pickups provide classic Gibson tones from the era with a bit of extra punch thanks to the open coils. ”
