Here is a bit of a rarity – a Gibson Les Paul Classic Bullion Gold finish. This model isn’t just a Gold Top – the entire guitar is gold! This example was built during 1990, and while this finish was available for perhaps three years, it was not common. It is definitely classy and eye-catching!
The Gibson Les Paul Classic Bullion Gold is built like other carved-top Les Pauls, with a bound Maple cap on a Mahogany body, paired with a Mahogany neck and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Electronics start with a pair of 490R/498T humbucking pickups (without covers), and Gibson’s standard wiring scheme of three-position Switchcraft toggle switch and individual volume and tone controls. It uses the 60’s slim taper neck profile.
The serial number uses a ‘reissue’ ink-stamp format. Originally this meant a leading digit indicating the year, with following digits being production sequence. In the reissue ink-stamp format, the leading digit can indicate the year being reissued, and the first digit of the remainder being the year of production. This model was introduced around 1990, and until 1993 the headstock decal read ‘Les Paul Model’; from 1993 it read ‘Les Paul Classic’. On many of these the truss rod cover was engraved with the word ‘Classic’. This example has a plain cover, so it’s possible it has been replaced.
This example is in very good, clean and largely original condition with very light wear throughout. There is a bit of natural tarnish on the nickel plated stop tailpiece and tune-o-matic bridge,
The original brown Gibson-branded hard shell case, by TKL, is included.
