❌SOLD❌ Gibson L-00 Standard Steel String Sunburst, 2018

The Gibson L-00 Standard steel string reproduces one of the three classic ‘L’ models built from the 1926 to 1945 period. These instruments were very responsive and used by many casual players and professionals. The L-00 began production in 1929 with a 12-fret neck, but by the time of its second 1933 catalog listing had a 14-fret neck. Some of the last few examples, from 1943 on, had the ‘Only a Gibson is Good Enough’ banner. At this point, the L-00 was being replaced with the ‘LG’ series.

Here we’re looking at a very nice Gibson L-00 Standard built at the Gibson Acoustic shop in Bozeman, MT with a rear-headstock stamp identifying it as a 2018 model. The L-00 Standard was built under that name from 2012 to 2019, was apparently dropped for a time, but is listed in the current catalog. It has also been built under the name ‘Blues King’.

The Gibson L-00 Standard is a fairly simple model, combining s a Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The bridge and unbound fingerboard are Indian Rosewood, and the pickguard is a faux-tortoise installed on the finish. The finish itself is Gibson’s standard nitrocellulose lacquer Vintage Sunburst.

There are hardware differences from the early models. The Gibson logo is Mother of Pearl, rather than screen printed or a decal, and the position marker dots are also Mother of Pearl. The tuners are sealed, individual Grover Mini-RotoMatic models with oval buttons, and an LR Baggs VTC pickup / preamp system is factory installed.

These Gibson L-00 Standard models are really great to play. Lightweight and responsive, they work very well for fingerstyle and pick playing. The ’00’ body size is comfortable, it produces enough volume to accompany voices – and the pickup lets you get as much volume as you need. These models have a great vintage appearance and sound.
