Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
The Gibson Keb Mo is based on the traditional ‘L’ bodied steel string guitars used by countless players. Smaller and more tonally balanced than Dreadnought and Jumbo designs, the L body guitar was the basis for many careers.
The Gibson Keb Mo model uses the L-body, with a 12-fret neck design that puts the bridge close to the vibrating center of the Adirondack Red Spruce top. The back, sides and neck are Mahogany, a pairing that provides a crisp, sparkling clarity and good note separation. The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian Rosewood. The body is bound with a creme ivoroid and herringbone purfling. Herringbone was a very common guitar decoration right up until World War II, but it came from Germany and when US stocks ran out, they couldn’t be replenished. Most subsequent instruments used plainer, multi-layer purfling. The tuning gears are Grover Sta-Tite models.
The finish is a traditional sunburst, and on this guitar, it’s in very good condition with just the slightest scuffing and play wear.
As stock, this guitar is equipped with an L R Baggs Element pickup system. The 9v battery pack goes against the neck block, and the controls are discreetly mounted inside the bass side of the soundhole.
The Gibson Keb’ Mo’ uses a relatively wide fingerboard, at 46mm or 1.81 inches, with lots of room for fingerstyle. The scale length is 25 inches or 635mm, a bit longer than Gibson’s usual 24.75 inches (628.6mm). This provides a bit more tension, brightness clarity and volume.
The serial number indicates a completion date of Monday, December 15, 2014 and was built at the Gibson Acoustic plant in beautiful Bozeman, Montana. This guitar is very clean and fretwear is minor – simply polishing them would make them look new and un-worn.
The original hard shell case by TKL is included.
