Launched in late 2022 an Artist series model, the Gibson Keb’ Mo’ “3.0” 12-Fret J-45 modifies the classic round-shoulder workhorse design. The “3.0” refers to this being the third Gibson Artist model for Keb’ ‘Mo.
Launched in 1942 as a replacement for the J-35, the Gibson J-45 has stayed in production to the current day and has been used by countless players of all levels.
Starting from this classic footing, the Gibson Keb’ Mo’ “3.0” 12-Fret J-45 replaces the standard 14-fret neck with a 25 inch (635mm) scale 12-fret, which shifts the bridge closer to the vibrating center of the top, and the fingerboard is a bit wider at just over 1.8 inches (45.87mm). This model also has no pickguard. Construction is otherwise very similar to standard J-45 models, with a thermally aged Sitka Spruce top paired with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The fingerboard is Indian Rosewood, and unusually there are no binding ‘Nubs’ – the frets extend to the outer edge of the binding. The tuners are open-back Grover Sta-Tite models, and like most Gibson acoustics it has an L R Baggs VTC pickup system installed as stock; the battery bag is mounted on the neck block. The finish is a Vintage Sunburst in nitrocellulose lacquer, and the headstock Gibson logo and crown are Mother of Pearl.
This model is a recent introduction, and this Gibson Keb’ Mo’ “3.0” 12-Fret J-45 is an early example, dating to December 02 2022; its QC check card is dated December 09 2022. It is in very good, clean condition with very light play wear and negligible fret wear. It plays well, and has the full, warm J-45 tone. Because this guitar has not been played very much, its tone has not yet fully developed, and its current quite good sound will only improve.
The original TKL hard shell case is included, and contains the Certificate of Authenticity.
