❌SOLD❌ Gibson John Lennon J-160E Peace Model Natural, 2010

Between 2002 and 2013 a total of 750 Gibson John Lennon J-160E Peace Model guitars were built, with this one being 493 from January 2010.

The Gibson J-160e appeared in 1954 and was built until 1979. It was intended to provide a reasonable representation of an acoustic guitar at stage volumes, supported by amplifiers. To that end, the J-160e was fitted with a P-90 pickup coil mounted at the end of the fingerboard, with volume and tone controls mounted directly into the top. Still, the concept meant dealing with the realities of feedback and so from 1955, the guitar used a heavily ladder braced, Laminate spruce top.
Fast forward to 1962 when an up and coming English band discovered the J-160E. Two examples were purchased by Brian Epstein for the band’s guitarists – John Lennon and George Harrison of The Beatles. Lennon’s in particular was used heavily for many years, and appears on a number of successful recordings. These guitars originally had Sunburst finishes. Lennon had more than one, as the first was stolen during a series of shows at Christmas 1963. In 1967, the top gained a psychedelic treatment, which lasted until being stripped to natural in 1969.

Here we’re looking at a Gibson John Lennon J-160E Peace Model from this 11-year limited edition, number 493 of 750 and dating to January 26 2010 at Bozeman, Montana. Like the originals, it has a ladder braced, laminate Spruce top and Mahogany sides and back. The use of laminates for these components is entirely for feedback rejection, but has another benefit for a touring musician: laminates are very stable and resistant to cracking due to changing temperature and humidity conditions. The neck is Mahogany with Indian Rosewood used for the fingerboard and bridge. The bridge also features the early 60’s ceramic, adjustable height saddle.

This example is in excellent, clean condition with only the lightest wear.
