Here’s a lovely Gibson J185 Custom Quilt, one of a run of 65 instruments built with sides and back of a fantastic AAA grade Quilted Maple set.
Gibson introduced the J-185 in 1951 and was built until 1958, and production resumed again with updated specs in 1990. During 1962, a new Everly Brothers J-180 was designed. Based on the J-185, that model featured an adjustable bridge, star inlays, and top and bottom pickguards, and that was built till 1972.
This Gibson J185 Custom Quilt dates to June 16 2015 and was built at the Gibson Acoustic plant in Bozeman, Montana. Part of a limited edition run – likely limited by the number of Quilted Maple sets available – this beautiful guitar is in great condition.
The original Gibson hard shell case is included and contains the Certificate of Authenticity.
More From The Builder On The J-185 Original, The Basis Of The Gibson J185 Custom Quilt:
“The J-185 is believed by many to be one of Gibson’s best acoustic instruments, yet it seems to be fairly obscure, much to the delight of devoted Gibson lovers. Originally released in the early 1950s and designed to be slightly smaller than its larger companion, the SJ-200, the J-185 still offers superior performance and tone. The J-185 Original maintains unsurpassed balance of lows, mids, and highs, with equal response to every note on the fretboard. Acclaimed by many as the perfect body size and shape for any player.”
