The Gibson Firebird Studio was a simplified expression of the original Firebird V design, using a set neck, full-sized humbuckers and ‘Non Reverse’ headstock. It seems to have been discontinued in the recent past. In a number of ways, the Firebird Studio is a mixture of the original ‘Reverse’ Firebird aesthetics and ‘Non-Reverse’ construction techniques. The original and re-issue ‘Reverse’ models use a neck -through design and three-piece body, but the ‘Non-Reverse’ have always used a set neck and slab body.
This Gibson Firebird Studio example was built in Nashville during 2017, and is in overall good condition. The original Grover mini tuners have been replaced with Sperzel locking tuners, which will speed up string changes. There are a few small dents and some play wear but the guitar plays quite well, is reasonably light and is quite resonant. It feels a little more compact than the Firebird V reviewed recently.
