Brand: Gibson
Instrument Categories: Archtop, Electric, Guitars, SOLD, Thinline
Built from 2002 to 2013 in Memphis as a limited production instrument, the Gibson ES137 is intended to bring together the sounds of an archtop and a Les Paul Classic. Two versions were produced – the Classic and Custom, with the key difference being that the Custom had an ebony fingerboard and a Varitone circuit.
Gibson has long built archtop electric guitars, and the ES-137 takes cues from many older designs. The body has a single florentine cutaway, and while is thin and has a solid center block for feedback rejection, it is thicker than ‘thinline’ models like the ES-3xx series. The top back and sides are laminate Flame Maple, with Mahogany for the neck and body blocks, and Indian Rosewood for the bound fingerboard. Hardware is gold plated, and by design resembles what’s installed on a Les Paul Classic – Grover Roto-Matic tuners, tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece, a pair of gold-plated humbuckers and Les Paul style wiring.
This Gibson ES137 dates to May 6th, 2004 at the now-closed Memphis plant and is in all original, very good condition. The top and back are very nicely flamed and the sunburst really sets it off. This guitar appears to have been hardly played at all – fret wear is negligible, the finish is very clean, and even the plating on the bass edge of the bridge is not worn. Because many players ‘palm mute’ with their hand on the bridge at that spot, plating normally wears first there.
The original hard shell case is included.
