Gibson built a limited edition set of ES-335 Rich Robinson models in 2014 after Hurricane Sandy destroyed part of Robinson’s guitar collection. One of the guitars badly damaged was his original 1963 ES-335 with Bigsby, used on many Black Crowes recordings. This was rebuilt by RS Guitar Works in Kentucky, and then Gibson made 500 accurate copies. Seen here is number 471 of that set of 500.
Built at the Gibson Memphis plant, the Gibson ES-335 Rich Robinson is very much like a ‘new’ 1963 model. The ‘Custom Made’ plaque on the body was frequently used to cover stop-tailpiece collars when a Bigsby was installed, either at the factory or after purchase. The cherry finish very common in that era, and the metal parts have gone through a ‘VOS’ aging process to simulate natural oxidization.
This example, serialized at number 471 of 500, is in excellent condition. There are two small pressure marks on the back and that’s about all I could find. This guitar seems to have been largely stored, or displayed.
The original hard shell case is included.
