The Gibson B B King Lucille made its debut in 1980 as the B B King Custom, with features specified by the great guitarist himself. Based on the ES-355 models that King had used for years, the Lucille has a sealed, thinline body to resist feedback at high stage volumes. As B B King tended to sit next to his amps, turn them up all the way and then control volume from the guitar, feedback could be an issue.
In 1988, the guitar was renamed the B B King Lucille, and has been in production since. Aside from the sealed body with rear access panel for the electronics, the Lucille features a Maple neck with bound Richlite fingerboard and head. The block position markers, Lucille inlay and Gibson logo are all Mother of Pearl, and the brass truss rod cover is engraved with B B King. Body and head binding is multi payer, and the pickguard is also bound. All the hardware is gold plated, and includes a TP6 fine tuning tailpiece along with the Nashville-style tune-o-matic bridge. The electronics include a pair of humbucking pickups, pickup selector with individual volume and tone controls, a six-position Varitone and two output jacks – mono and stereo. The Stereo jack uses an insert-type cable and allows the two pickups to be fed to separate channels or amplifiers.
This Gibson B B King Lucille sports a cherry red finish and is in very nice shape. It was built at the Gibson Nashville Plant on July 22nd, 1999.
You’ll note the B B King signature on the pickguard – it is actually a signature, not a reproduction.
The original hard shell case is included.
