Here’s a Gibson 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Historic Reissue in TV White, built during 2004 at the Nashville Custom Shop.
Introduced in 1954 as a simplified, entry level Les Paul model, the Les Paul Junior featured two woods – Honduran Mahogany for the slab body and neck, and Rosewood for the fingerboard – which until the end of the Junior’s production in 1963 meant Brazilian Rosewood. Since then, the reissues, including this Historic 1958 Les Paul Junior, have used Indian Rosewood. Hardware was simple – Kluson strip tuners with creme buttons at the head, a stop bar bridge, and a single P-90 pickup with volume and tone controls.
From 1954 to 1957, the Les Paul Junior basically used the flat back of the Les Paul model, without the carved Maple (or Mahogany, in the case of the Les Paul Custom) cap. However for 1958, the model was refreshed to add a second, upper cutaway providing unrestricted access to all the frets. Radical stuff for 1958!
This Gibson 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Historic Reissue dates to 2004 and is in overall very good condition with only minor wear. The medium-jumbo frets show very little wear. As a 1958 style model, the neck profile is full and somewhat chunky. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is in great shape, and the dark filler used under the translucent white finish nicely brings out the grain patterns.
The original black Gibson hard shell case is included, and contains the Certificate of Authenticity and various hang tags from its original sale.
The Builder’s Description Of The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Historic Reissue:
“The Junior Gets Its Wings!
The Gibson Custom Shop is the pinnacle of craftsmanship, quality, and sound excellence. Each instrument celebrates Gibson’s legacy through accuracy, authenticity and attention to detail.
1958 was a monumental year for Gibson in which a whole new lineup of now-famous models were introduced. One of them was the redesigned “double cutaway” Les Paul Junior, which has since found its place in music history as a favorite of hard rock musicians. The extra fret access of the double-cut construction allows upper octave leads while the “simple is better” single-pickup setup projects only thick, heavy tone.
Gibson Custom Shop has proudly revived the original recipe from 1958 for this Historic Reissue, from the solid mahogany and hide glue construction to the vintage-style wiring. It is an accurate and faithful replica in every possible way. “
