Here we have a Gadow Custom DC Set Neck model with a carved Maple top on Mahogany wearing a Sunburst finish, built during 2007 in Durham, North Carolina.
This guitar uses familiar and proven formulas, combining a Mahogany back and neck with a carved Maple top. The Double-Cut body shape was originally used by Gibson for Les Paul Junior models in 1958 and the Les Paul Special for 1959, updating the previous single-cutaway, slab-bodied and poorly-selling models. This general shape but with a carved top was later used by companies like Hamer, but Gibson did not combine the two elements till 1992 with the Les Paul DC Classic.
The Gadow Custom DC Set Neck model features Maple for the carved top, Mahogany for the contoured body back and soft V-profile neck, Ebony for the head plate and truss rod cover, with Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard. Position markers are a familiar trapezoidal design in Mother of Pearl, also used for the Gadow headstock logo. Gotoh tuners are at the head, with a TonePros locking Tune-a-matic and stop tailpiece combination at the body. A pair of Seymour Duncan pickups feed through master volume and tone controls, with each having push-pull control coil-split functions.
This guitar plays nicely, is quite comfortable to play and balances well. The original hard shell case is included.
Founded in 2002, Gadow Guitars was based in Durham, North Carolina and by 2005 had seven employees and 33 dealers in North America and Europe. Unfortunately, the company closed in 2019, possibly due to the sudden COVID-related worldwide interruption in parts, materials and staffing availability.
