G W Barry, like many other of the current top shelf Canadian luthiers, apprenticed in Jean Larrivee’s shop and this shows in the careful selection of materials and quality of construction.
This example was built during 1997 at G W Barry’s shop in Toronto, Canada. It features his ‘M’ body size, derived partly from the Martin style body, with a rounded cutaway and a side port. The top is Sitka Spruce with an abalone rosette, the back, sides and neckplate and Indian Rosewood, with mahogany for the neck and ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard. An L R Baggs pickup is installed to an endpin jack. Tuners are by Schaller.
These are spectacular guitars, with excellent representation throughout the frequency range. It’s basically got all of everything. At 11 years old, it has some cosmetic wear and light fretwear. The fret work itself is extremely clean, as expected from a luthier with such extensive experience.
An arched top, hard shell case is included.
