Brand: Framus
Instrument Categories: Electric, Guitars, REDUCED, SOLD, Solidbody
This is a Framus Diablo Supreme in Satin natural finish, built during 2010 in the Warwick shops at Markneukirchen Bavaria. Though the designation didn’t exist when this example was built, Framus soon after identified these guitars as Masterbuilt.
This guitar is in very good, clean condition and features an AAA-grade book matched Maple cap on a Mahogany body and a Mahogany neck with Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The hardware includes Framus-branded locking tuners, a TonePros wraparound adjustable bridge, Seymour Duncan SSH-1N and SSH-4 pickups, five way switch and master volume and tone controls. The ‘in between’ and middle positions on the 5-way switch offer different combinations of the two pickups.
This guitar plays well and is very comfortable. Sold with a hard shell case.
Currently, the Framus Diablo Supreme models are part of the Framus “D” series built in China. Framus Diablo II Supreme models are built to order in Germany.
Framus has an interesting history. Technically Framus was founded by Fred Wilfer in Schönbach, Germany in 1946. With the help of the Allies the company almost immediately moved out of the coalescing Soviet sector to Erlanger in Bavaria, bringing with it the displaced instrument makers from Schönbach. The company grew until the late 1960s, reaching a peak of 400 workers. However, competition from increasingly good and inexpensive Japanese and Korean instruments led to Framus declaring bankruptcy in 1975 and the company vanished.
But Fred Wilfer had a son, Hans-Peter Wilfer, who formed Warwick during 1982 in Erlangen. Warwick focused on building bass guitars, and in 1995 had grown enough to move to a larger facility in Markneukirchen, where they re-launched the Framus brand.
