This Fender Stratocaster Sunburst from 1969 has all the natural wear that make vintage instruments look so good. This wonderful piece uses its original parts though some work has been done around the guitar over the years.
The sunburst finish has worn through to the base clear sealer coats where the player has contacted and rested against the surface. The back of the guitar body shows most of the original three-colour Sunburst colour tones, while light has caused most of the red on the front to fade. The neck has had some other work done; the original poly finish – and the frets – probably wore through in various areas and the player decided to have the guitar re-fretted and went with taking most of the finish off the neck and fingerboard, while leaving it on the front, back and edges of the headstock, maintaining the Fender decals and logos, rather like Ernie Ball MusicMan does on many of their models. It’s very comfortable to play, and the fret work is still in good condition. The oiled neck and fingerboard surfaces are quite comfortable.
The original poly finish is worn and naturally checked as expected and described, and there is a small dark touchup on the bass-side top at the end of the neck cavity.
This 1969 Fender Stratocaster Sunburst really looks like a guitar that’s been heavily used as Leo intended, and is still ready for many more years of use. It plays well, and sounds great.
The original black rectangular hard shell case is included.
