Here’s something special! Not a reissue but an original, the Fender Stratocaster Pink Paisley was built in Japan from 1984 to 1987, mostly while Fender had no guitar production in the USA.
CBS purchased Fender in 1965 and sold it to a management team effective March 5 1985. However, the sale did not include any production facilities so the new owners had to fill the gap until a new plant – ultimately in Corona, California – could be built. The company had already contracted with Fuji-Gen to build for the Japanese market and quality was very good, so until the new Corona facility opened in 1987 all Fender guitar production was from Japan.
The Fender Stratocaster Pink Paisley model was unique to this era though during 1968, Fender built a Paisley Telecaster. The finish uses a foil layer on top of the body wood and covered with a polyester sunburst layer.
This Fender Stratocaster Pink Paisley model dates to 1987 and was built for Fender Japan by Fuji-Gen at Matsumoto, Nagano. It’s in good clean condition though it has definitely been played, as evidenced by the fingerboard wear. The vintage style frets have light to moderate wear. Some sources suggest that the body is Basswood but given the weight of this guitar it’s likely Alder or Ash. The neck is Maple with a walnut ‘Skunk Stripe’. Tuners are Gotoh sealed models and are very smooth. The pickup covers and backplate are black, while the pickguard also uses the paisley foil and sunburst approach.
The original hard shell case is included.
