When Leo Fender had the frankly brilliant idea of the bolt-together guitar and used ‘caster’ as part of the name, what’s known as a ‘Partscaster’ also came into existence.
Partscasters were and continue to be a big trend. Modifying fenders to customize for each player’s needs, uses and tendencies end up being not only a good learning experience for those into DIY but offer more specific-to-the-player tool rather than the standard off-the-shelf instruments. One need only look at Domenic Troiano’s heavily modified Telecaster to see how far this can go!
Fender Stratocasters and telecasters have been the go-to for such mods as a lot of parts and electronics can be easily swapped and modified. By the 1970’s the need for aftermarket parts spawned a thriving industry suppling a vast array of custom components.
Here we have a Partscaster made of Fender American standard parts, incorporating the stock body, neck and hardware with modified electronics. The pickups are all DiMarzio hum-cancelling single coil profile pickups; injector in the neck, virtual solo in the middle and the chopper in the bridge. The volume and first tone work as master volume and tone while the third tone (closest to the jack) is actually a Demeter Mid Boost. Note the DIY backplate for the battery compartment on the back. It’s also important to note that like most pedals, the battery will be on whenever a cable is plugged in!
This guitar and a lot of the hardware has been intentionally distressed (relic’ed), the neck is straight and there is very minor fretwear.
A black tear-drop shape hard shell case is included.
