Here is one of the cleanest vintage Fender Precision Basses we’ve seen in a while, dating to 1967 and with its original case, bridge and pickup covers.
The Fender Precision Bass, introduced in late 1951 as a logical progression from Fender’s guitar design, has been hands down one of the most influential musical instrument designs in history.
It is safe to say that the Fender Precision design has changed the way music is performed and presented. To its introduction, bass tones were acoustically generated, using bulky and somewhat delicate – and fretless – instruments. With this new bass, bassists could reliably and with ‘Precision’ produce on-pitch tones at any volume and in an easy to transport package. This instrument was a necessary step towards the performance of music in ever-larger venues at ever-higher volumes. Its split pickup, introduced for the 1954 model, was one of the first hum-cancelling models. The design is so strong that it can be found in almost every genre of music, and has appeared in more performances and on more recordings than any other instrument model.
This Fender Precision Bass has a neck stamp of 5DEC67C, its potentiometers have date codes of 1966 and it has an ‘F’ stamped neck plate. These put its final assembly to late 1967 at Fullerton, California in the early years of CBS ownership of Fender. In all original condition, the finish has light wear with a few small chips and a spot of ‘buckle rash’ on the back . It is strung with flat wound strings, and fret wear is very light. The faux-tortoise pickguard has light wear, no breaks and is original, with the finger-rest still in place. The body is Alder, with a Maple neck and Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
The original Fender hard shell case is included.
