Introduced in 1964 and built until 1982 as a student model, the Fender Mustang has also been used by a number of touring professionals, including Adrian Belew, Kurt Cobain, David Byrne, John Frusciante and of course the late Johnny Winter.
Here we’re looking at a Fender Mustang in Sunburst finish, built during 1973 at the Fender Fullerton plant, almost halfway through the period of CBS ownership. This guitar is in overall good condition and plays well. The short 24 inch scale is really fun to play if you’re used to a full scale Fender at 25.5 inches.
This all original example features a contoured Alder body with Sunburst finish and a Maple neck with a 24 inch (609.6mm) scale length Rosewood fingerboard. The Mustang was also available in a shorter 22.5 inch (572mm) scale. The Mustang sports two pickups, here on a faux pearloid pickguard, controlled by two, three position switches for on/off/on, the outside ‘ons’ also reversing phase. Fret and fingerboard wear are light. There are a few small dents around the top and the back shows light buckle rash.
The original hard shell case is included.
