This wonderful and pristine Fender LTD 51 Telecaster NOS (New Old Stock) Blonde model shows off what the Custom Shop can do, subtly mixing vintage features with modern advancements.
This Fender LTD 51 Telecaster NOS guitar started with a two-piece Ash body in the 1951 ‘NoCaster’ style and ‘NoCaster Blonde’ finish and an AA-grade quarter sawn Flame Maple 51 style neck. From there, the neck received a compound radius – 7.25 to 9.6 inch radius – tall narrow frets (Dunlop 6105 style), a 19/56 ‘V’ profile, and a bone nut.
The Fender LTD 51 Telecaster hardware reflects 1951 choices. Kluson Deluxe style tuners, Fender branded, are installed at the head; the bridge is the 1951 – 1954 ‘Ashtray’ type with three brass saddles and serial number stamped on the bridge plate. The ‘Ashtray’ cover is included in the case. The pickups are Custom Shop hand-wound 50 – 51 ‘Blackguard’ models. The installed wiring is the 1951 modified ‘NoCaster’ version with blender pot and brighter rhythm setting in the neck position. A pre-wired modern spec harness is included and can quickly be swapped in.
The original and very nice G&G rectangular tweed case with burgundy lining and Custom Shop logo is included with this Fender LTD 51 Telecaster, and contains a folder with the dated Certificate of Authenticity and ‘Floor Traveller Sheet’, which describes each component.
This is an excellent guitar. The Telecaster design has proven itself to be nearly ideal for countless uses, and as such has not changed all that much over the last 72+ years. The subtle updates chosen for this example – the larger frets and compound radius – adapt this otherwise very traditional build for a modern player. Its build quality is very good, the finish looks like a New Old Stock early6 50’s model, it plays very well and sounds great.
