Here is a real rarity, an all original  Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst built during 1960 at the Fender plant in Fullerton, California.

In the late 1950s Fender wanted to expand their market share, especially at the expense of competitors like Gibson whose models were most used by jazz players. In 1958, the Jazzmaster appeared, Fender’s first with a Rosewood fingerboard – sourced from Brazil, as much was at the time – and a host of other new features including the Offset body and an all new trem system. At this point, the fingerboard was a ‘slab’ type with a flat bottom and crowned top. It took several years for Fender to develop the tooling allowing lamination of a thin piece of Rosewood on a crowned neck blank.

Here we are looking at a lovely Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst, in all original condition and with original case, strap and trem arm. It’s in overall good condition with the wear expected after six decades of use. The nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst finish has natural sinking and some small dents, dings and some pick marks, while the neck finish is worn particularly on the bass side lower positions where the player’s thumb rested. Fret wear is moderate, but the guitar plays well as is.

This is a fantastic piece, well worth checking out.
