The Fender Jazzmaster appeared in 1958 as an effort to broaden Fender’s market share. In particular Fender sought Jazz players who were using Gibson models. The new, offset waist body is designed to be more comfortable for seated players. However, the plan didn’t quite go as intended, and the model wound up attracting Surf players.
This is an all original Fender Jazzmaster in its original Olympic White finish with matching headstock, with a neck date reading 13OCT66 or a Jazzmaster built during October, 1966; the 13 is a product code for either Stratocasters or Jazzmasters of that period.
This is into the CBS ownership era, and it has an F-stamped neck plate. Fretwear is light, and the bound rosewood fingerboard is in good condition. The fingerboard binding and mother of pearl block position markers are fully intact, with no separation.
The original Olympic White finish has a few marks, as is to be expected, but no major chips or dents. The Fender headstock logo decal, applied over the finish as was practice at the time, is in good shape with just a little flaking at the top of the M and after the R.
This guitar is original and complete, with the original case (the trem arm is in the case). It plays well, and is currently strung with a flatwound set that includes a wound G.
As presented here, it’s using its original bridge but a Mastery Jazzmaster bridge is included in the case. The Mastery products are very high quality replacements and offer significant tonal, setup and performance improvements. They are also fairly expensive, with the Jazzmaster bridge being in the $200 range.
