The Fender Jazz Bass V, as an American Standard version, was built from 1998 to 2000, then from 2008 to 2016. The American Standard name was dropped in 2017 to be replaced by the American Professional line. Despite being listed in catalogs as the “Jazz Bass V”, the “V” does not appear on the headstock logo of this instrument.
The five-string bass seems to have appeared in 1965 as the short-lived Fender Bass V. Despite the musical opportunities presented by the extended range, 5-string basses have not been as popular as standard 4-string models. That said, a few years ago I visited Nashville and the Opry, and noticed that virtually every bassist – on stages and in clubs – was using a 5-string bass.
Drawing heavily from the basic Jazz Bass, the Fender Jazz Bass V adds a wider neck, 5-saddle High-Mass Vintage (HMV) bridge, and 5 Fender / HipShot tuners with the high string on the treble side of the head. Otherwise it functions like a regular 4-string Jazz Bass.
This Fender Jazz Bass V in Olympic White dates to 2012, and is in overall good shape. Fret wear is light, with plenty of life left. There is light oxidization on the control plate and tuner buttons, but otherwise it is very clean.
Sold with its original molded, TSA grade hard shell case.
