The Fender Jazz Bass was launched in 1960 as part of an effort to capture the interest of serious jazz bass players still using upright acoustic instruments. The Jazz Bass was built until 1981, and has since been offered in a wide range of models based on the original concept.
Here we’re treated to a Fender Jazz Bass in Olympic White finish, dating to 7 May 1965 and built at the Fender plant in Fullerton, California just after the company’s purchase by CBS. It features an Ash body and Maple neck with Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. The frets appear to be original, and despite their age are not exceptionally worn – this bass is strung with flat wound strings, which greatly extend fret life. The neck has a date stamp of 7May 65, and the back of the head has a screw hole where a strap pin was factory installed. I can’t say that I have ever seen anyone use that strap pin for a strap, though many basses had it.
The finish, originally a fairly bright white, has faded and yellowed over time and in response to light and its environment, and worn where it rested against the player.
This Fender Jazz Bass is in complete condition, with the original finish components and the metal pickup shields. IT plays well and cleanly
The original Fender hard shell case is included.
