Evoking the look of a well used vintage guitar, the Fender Custom Shop ’69 Stratocaster has a vintage white finish with a moderate ‘relic’ treatment. The body finish has an aged look and some deliberate chipping and wear, while the clear neck finish treatment is lighter, with some scuffing around the edges of the head. This model was built between 1997 and 2012, and again in 2016. From 2007 to 2010, a ‘Heavy Relic’ model with much heavier wear was available through the Dealer Select program.
Here we’re looking at a Fender Custom Shop ’69 Stratocaster in the Relic version, built during 2006 at the Fender plant in Corona, California. It’s in very good condition with only light wear – beyond the relic treatment! Closely following 1969 specs, the body is Alder and the neck is Maple. There’s no ‘skunk stripe’ on the back of the neck – the rolled-edge fingerboard is a piece of Maple, applied in the same way a Rosewood board would be, and the truss rod was installed from the front of the neck before the fingerboard was installed. The frets are a narrow but relatively high Dunlop 6105.
You might notice a small piece of tape on the bridge. This is usually placed to prevent loss of a small tension spring that just drops in and helps keep the arm in position; over time as the threads wear, the arm can become loose. An alternative way of dealing with this effect is to wrap a short length of white teflon plumbing tape around the arm threads.
This Fender Custom Shop ’69 Stratocaster is a really nice guitar to play. It has a relatively light weight and good balance, is well set up and responsive. with a nicely snappy tone.
The original rectangular, blonde tolex hard shell case is included.
