The rare Fender Bonnie Raitt Signature Stratocaster honors the groundbreaking female singer/guitarist who left Harvard / Radcliffe College to pursue music, particularly blues and folk styles and is well known for her slide playing.
Bonnie Raitt’s first album was released in 1971. Since then she has had at least 17 studio albums of her own, plus live and compilations and guest spots for other artists.
The Fender Bonnie Raitt Signature Stratocaster was built in two versions from 1995 to 2001. The initial run from 1995 to 1997 featured an Ash body with a Rosewood capped Maple neck, and the second from 1998 to 2001 used an Alder body. Two finishes were available – a traditional three tone sunburst (colour code 800) and a lovely Desert Sunset ‘Blueburst’ (colour code 888). The large-headstock style neck is Maple with a 9.5 inch radius, C profile Rosewood fingerboard and on the head a modern Spaghetti logo and Bonnie Raitt signature.
A pearlescent pickguard and backplate set is set off by the “Blueburst” finish seen here. The hardware is vintage style, with slot-head Kluson Deluxe style tuners and a vintage style bridge. The finish is polyurethane and has been well taken care of.
The electronics are traditional Stratocaster with Fender Texas Special pickups, the middle being RW/RP (Reverse Wound, Reverse Polarity) for hum cancellation in the 2 and 4 switch positions.
This example is in very good clean condition with only light wear throughout the instrument. It plays well and cleanly; the bridge is ‘decked’ meaning that is set to rest on the top of the guitar and not ‘float’. This is a common approach for Strat players who don’t use the trem but do want enhanced tuning stability and the subtle ‘natural reverb’ the springs provide.
Sold with the original rectangular Fender tweed hard shell case, with the trem arm in the accessory pocket.
