The Fender American Standard Stratocaster debuted in late 1986 and was discontinued in 2016, replaced by the American Elite series. These were the heir to the venerable, original Stratocaster model introduced in 1954. Building on the undisputed success of the Telecaster, the Stratocaster has been one of the most successful musical instruments ever built.
Dating to 1991 and built in Corona, California, this Fender American Standard Stratocaster sports a Gloss Black finish and is in very good, clean condition with very little wear. The Maple neck has rolled edges with a 9 inch radius, and is very comfortable. The body is Alder for lighter weight and is nicely contoured. The neck mount includes a four-bolt plate with a MicroTilt adjuster making neck angle changes a breeze, should this be required during setup. The electronics are stock and are in good working order.
The two-post bridge is configured to lightly float, allowing a pitch rise of just over a full tone on the G string when the bar is pulled up. This is one of my favourite versions of the Stratocaster trem bridge; the larger, solid saddles provide more tonal clarity and separation plus a bit more sustain. and are more comfortable for palm muting.
At this point in American Standard production, the tuners are not locking and have equal-height posts. While the stock tuners are very good, a common and useful upgrade is to install drop-in, staggered post height, locking tuners such as these.
Overall, this is a very comfortable, good clean condition example.
