There have been a number of versions of the Fender 52 Telecaster Reissue, which points out how close to the mark Leo Fender was with these early instruments. Current versions of the Telecaster are not really all that different even after over 70 years of continuous production.
Here we are looking at a Fender 52 Telecaster Reissue in the original style Butterscotch Blonde finish. This example was built during 1996 at Corona, California. The neck has a date of May 06 1996, the body May 15. While it certainly honors the original design, there are differences – primarily the use of a poly finish instead of nitrocellulose lacquer, a choice made for practical reasons.
This instrument is in very good, clean condition with only very light wear throughout. The body is Ash, paired with a one-piece Curly Maple neck with a Walnut ‘skunk’ stripe to cover the rear-mounted truss rod. As a 1952 model, all the screws including the neck bolts are slot-head and the serial number is stamped on the bridge plate.
The wiring is in the 1952 format, with a pickup selector, volume, and tone controls. This moved away from the original wiring that had a blend control instead of the treble-cut tone control. It also has the early ‘Bass Preset’ capacitor on the neck pickup, a feature that many players quickly removed.
The original rectangular tweed hard shell case with case candy is included.
