The Fender 50th Anniversary Stratocaster appeared in 2004, commemorating the appearance of the Fender Stratocaster in 1954. At the time, the Stratocaster was intended as an upgrade or replacement to the very successful Telecaster, but wound up being equally popular siblings.
Here we have a very well preserved Fender 50th Anniversary Stratocaster, built during 2004 at the Fender plant in Corona, California. This example features an Ash body and Maple neck, with a single-layer white pickguard. The finish is the early style two-tone sunburst. For this, Fender sprayed a yellow center coat and then a dark ring around the body edges.
This is not a slavish re-creation of the 1954 model. It also sports a modern two-point trem bridge with steel block saddles – this is one of our favourite bridges for the improved brightness, clarity and separation offered by the heavier bridge components. The two-pivot design also encounters considerably less friction than the six-screw Vintage model, and hence returns to pitch more readily. As well, the truss rod adjuster is at the head instead of the heel. This prevents the pickguard from becoming damaged during less elegantly performed truss rod adjustments.
This example is in very clean condition. Like some other guitars we’ve seen recently, this one has been so lightly used that it still has the Fender Super Bullets card on the tremolo spring back plate, and the single-layer pick guard still has its factory plastic coating. Fret and finish wear are very, very light. The original strap and paperwork are included.
