❌SOLD❌ Fender 1951 Precision Bass Reissue ‘CIJ’ Sunburst, 2002

The Fender 1951 Precision Bass ‘CIJ’ or ‘Crafted In Japan’ model, not a Squier, is built around 2002 in Japan by Tokai or Dyna Gakki.  The music world changed with the appearance of the Fender 1951 Precision Bass. Though it took a few years to win over every genre, this new instrument immediately began displacing the upright bass, for very practical reasons. Obviously lighter and more compact, the P-Bass could also be as loud as an amplifier could make it – AND play reliably and precisely in tune anywhere on the neck. By the end of the 1950’s, upright basses were only found in the hands of hard-core jazz artists and Rockabilly bassists. The early 1950s models have been used heavily by Sting of the Police, and Dusty Hill of ZZ Top.

Fender Japan has produced instruments since the early 1980’s, and when CBS sold Fender back to its management team, US production facilities were not included. Japanese production had always been contracted, at first exclusively to Fuji-Gen Gakki.  Their contract limited the use of the term ‘Made In Japan’ to instruments made by them. When demand grew, Fender brought in both Tokai and Dyna Gakki but these two companies had to use the term ‘Crafted in Japan’. Fuji-Gen built this model from 1994 to 1997, and a second run from 2002 to 2010 in the ‘Crafted in Japan’ series was made by Dyna and Tokai.

This Fender 1951 Precision Bass ‘CIJ’ sports a tobacco sunburst and is in great, all original condition with minimal wear.The ‘slab’ style body is Ash, with a one-piece Maple neck.  There are a few small chips in the edges of the fairly thin finish.

This model did not include bridge or pickup covers. The pickup is the original single coil unit, with simple volume and tone controls.

This is a very good playing bass with a great vintage look and sound.

A non-original hard shell case is included.
