The Ernie Ball Music Man Luke II was the second version of the Steve Lukather model, introduced in 1994 and now built as the Luke III. The Luke I featured a Floyd Rose locking trem and an EMG SSH active pickup set. The Luke II of 1998 changed to a Music Man Vintage trem with Schaller locking tuners. In late 2012, the current Luke III appeared with a larger body and an added boost circuit run off a push-pull tone pot.
Steve Lukather has been a founding member of Toto since 1976 while he was still in high school. In addition, he’s been a session player, producer, songwriter and arranger, and played on over 1,500 albums in a wide range of styles.
Here we have a very clean, all original Ernie Ball Music Man Luke II in ‘Luke Blue’ finish – a light pearlescent blue, tending towards grey. This guitar dates to October 2, 2012 with a build code of 915 15 20 00 CS CR, and comes from the Ernie Ball Music Man shop in San Luis Obispo.
Aside from its all round good looks, comfortable design, this is a very versatile guitar. It pairs an Alder body with a Maple neck and Indian Rosewood twelve inch radius fingerboard – and that’s it for the wood choices! Hardware is similarly straightforward, using the two-post Music Man Vintage Trem, Schaller locking tuners, Music Man’s patented compensated nut and a SSH set of EMG pickups in black covers passing through a five-way switch and master volume and tone controls, with black telecaster type dome top knobs.
This guitar is in very good condition with virtually no wear. Looking at it under the photo lights, I’m not really finding any scratches or dents, and the frets and fingerboard are pristine. The balance is excellent – sitting with the guitar on my right leg, it naturally sits level.
The original hard shell case is included.
