The Ernie Ball Music Man JP6 John Petrucci model is a very well designed and built guitar, with direct links back to Leo Fender’s work – Leo was a silent partner in what became Music Man, silent due to a 10 year no-competition clause in his sale of the Fender company to CBS in 1965.
The John Petrucci model is the result of cooperation between Ernie Ball Music Man and Petrucci. It’s designed to exactly meet the needs of a performing guitarist, as Petrucci explains in the video linked to this post. Everything about it, from the arc of the knobs and switches to the Basswood body and Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard work towards performance. There’s very little that is extraneous to that goal.
This example dates to April 15, 2014 and was built at the Ernie Ball Music Man plant in San Luis Obispo, California. The very nice Pearl Redburst finish on the body and headstock is in very clean condition. This 6-string model features a pair of humbucking pickups plus an active Piezo bridge pickup for acoustic type tones. The stainless steel frets don’t look worn at all, but that’s expected – they have a very long life. The Music Man trem bridge works well with the locking tuners, and tuning is quite stable.
The original hard shell case is included.
Here’s what the Ernie Ball Music Man team have to say about the Music Man JP6:
“The JP6 is the original Music Man John Petrucci signature model. The basswood body features a high gloss durable finish with stylish lines and an ergonomic scooped arm contour. The smooth action floating tremolo allows for raising and lowering of the pitch with impeccable tuning stability and piezo pickups. Stainless steel frets, JP shield inlays and a rosewood fretboard come standard on the ultra-thin, fast and figured maple neck. “
