Built during 2001, this Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Sport HH Tremolo features a sunburst finish with matching headstock.
The Axis line was introduced in 1996 as a double-cutaway offset solidbody of a Maple cap on Basswood. It is equipped with the Floyd Rose double locking trem system.
At the same time, the Axis Sport launched using the same basic body and neck, but with a two-point, non-locking trem system or hard tail, and with a solid Ash body. In 2003, the Super Sport replaced the Sport, bringing in the Maple cap on Basswood body, but keeping the two-point trem.
Here we’re looking at an Ernie Ball Music Man (EBMM for short!) Axis Sport HH Tremolo in Sunburst finish. This example dates to January 30, 2001 and was built at San Luis Opisbo, California. It features a solid Ash body, with a nicely filled grain and sunburst finish, paired to a Roasted Maple neck, and the headstock finish matches the body. From the heel to the head, the neck has a very comfortable rubbed oil and wax finish. For hardware, a set of Locking tuners are at the head, and EBMM’s ‘Vintage’ two-point trem at the body. Unfortunately the trem arm is long lost, and the bridge is set up as ‘decked’ or disabled. For wiring, a pair of Humbuckers pass through a five-way switch offering extra selection of pickup coils from both pickups, master volume and master tone to the side-mounted output jack.
Overall this Music Man Axis Sport is in good condition, with minor play wear and light to moderate fret wear. There are a few small finish chips around the edges of the neck pocket. It plays well, the neck is very comfortable and the guitar balances well. The pickup selection is quite versatile.
The original hard shell case is included.
