❌SOLD❌ Epiphone Texan FT79N Steel String Natural, 1966

The Epiphone Texan FT79N – the N indicating a Natural finish on the top rather than Sunburst – was built as a slope shoulder dreadnought from 1958 to 1970 when Epiphone production ceased in the USA.

The Epiphone FT79 was originally built from 1941 to 1958 as a square shoulder dreadnought with Walnut back and sides until 1949, and then with laminated Maple until the company was sold to Gibson in 1958.
This guitar was the most expensive Epiphone flat-top steel string and was – and still is! – famously used by Paul McCartney on many recordings, including ‘Yesterday’. Peter Frampton and Noel Gallagher of Oasis also used this model.

Here we’re looking at an Epiphone Texan FT79N dating to 1966 and sporting both the natural finish and black ‘Stinger’ heel detail. This example is in original, good playing condition. The top is Sitka Spruce and the rest of the guitar is Mahogany, except for the Rosewood fingerboard and adjustable-saddle bridge. At the time this guitar was built, the rosewood was sourced in Brazil. Typical of Gibson and Epiphone production then and now, the bridge has a pair of small Mother of Pearl dots which cover small locating bolts.

The lacquer finish has natural checking, and a few wear marks on the treble side and back of the neck. Fret wear is moderate. The pickguard is original but and has its stylized ‘E’ logo.
A non-original hard shell case is included.

The modern US built version of this guitar can be viewed here.
