For White Guitar Christmas Day, our next guest is a brand new Epiphone G1275 Doubleneck SG body guitar in gloss white finish! Though this model is not exactly a common guitar to see, it is one of the most recognisable designs from being used by Jimmy Page in Led Leppelin tours, Don Felder for Eagles shows, and by John McLaughlin in the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Doubleneck guitars date back quite a while, with Gibson offering a number of models in the late 1950’s, some with a short scale neck, tuned up an octave. Usually, these models were semi-hollow, with carved Spruce tops and Maple for the back and sides. In 1963, however, Gibson shifted to a fully solid body using the SG shape, named it the EDS-1275 and this was in production until 1968.
Jimmy Page famously needed a doubleneck in 1971 solely due to the performance requirements of Stairway to Heaven, and Gibson built a slightly different version for his needs.
These guitars are now available as Epiphone models; most players use them for only a few specific tunes so the investment in a Gibson version is harder to justify. And, the quality of these models is just fine; they are made at the Unsung plant in Korea. They use the same basic specs as the Gibson EDS-1275.
This guitar is sold without case; a case or gig bag is available.
