Brand: Enoch Banjos
Instrument Categories: Banjos, SOLD
New and brought in by one of our inhouse banjo experts, Anne Hartman, is a pair of Enoch Tradesman 12 banjos, in Cherry and Walnut.
Enoch Banjos are hand built in Kevin Enoch’s shop in Beltsville, Maryland, and are highly respected by the old-time banjo crowd. While the Enoch Tradesman is a simple, plain yet very high quality banjo, many Enoch banjos are custom built with incredible engraved inlay sets.
Here we’re have a brand new Enoch Tradesman 12 5-string open back banjo, built of Cherry and with a Richlite fingerboard. The fingerboard has small synthetic dots for position markers, and a very nicely done frailing or clawhammer scoop, the fret ends carefully shaped to follow the line of the scoop.
Richlite is a synthetic compound that looks, feels and sounds a lot like Ebony; it’s used on many high end instruments including Gibson ES-355 and other custom models, and a number of Godin instruments. Aside from its stability and good looks, it completely bypasses any CITES restrictions, and this is the reason for the synthetic fingerboard dots instead of traditional Mother of Pearl.
The pot of the Enoch Tradesman 12 is built by a drum manufacturer and configured for banjo use. The tuners are made by Gotoh, and are very smooth and precise, as most Gotoh products are. The tailpiece is a ‘No-Knot’ reproduction, all with nickel plating.
This model is strung with nylon strings, towards the earlier days of open back banjos that used gut strings. This reduces the volume somewhat, though these are fairly loud instruments, but it makes the banjo very easy to play, with a warmer tome. Steel strings can easily be used if so desired.
These are very well made instruments, and are very popular with old-time banjo players. The construction is top notch, with no shortcuts taken. Fit and finish are top notch.
This is a very good sounding instrument, with a warm, rich tone and a great feel. Have a look at the attached video!
