Ernie Ball Music Man introduced the EBMM Steve Morse Y2D Hardtail to mark over twenty years of association with the legendary Steve Morse.
Based on the Steve Morse Signature model, the EBMM Steve Morse Y2D features a bookmatched, quilted Maple cap on a Poplar body, paired with an Indian Rosewood-fingerboard Maple neck. The headstock is the characteristic Music Man 4+2 compact design that helps improve balance. The neck carries a compensated nut that does help bring intonation into greater focus, and has a gloss finish on the headstock itself. The length of the neck uses a waxed, gunstock oil finish.
It is a hard tail model, and uses a Music Man Tune-o-Matic style bridge matching the 12 inch radius of the fingerboard, with a block-style hard tailpiece bolted to the top. The electronics are…. special, using a DiMarzio DP205 Steve Morse Neck and DP200 Bridge model, with an EBMM proprietary single coil just next to the Bridge pickup. Controls include a 5 way switch, master volume, and tone controls.
Here, the finish is called ‘Purple Sunset’, and it’s both very attractive and in very good condition with only minor wear.
Steve Morse has played with Dixie Dregs, Kansas, Deep Purple, Living Loud and Flying Colors among others. That’s decades of a lot of hard work and great music.
Here is the builder on the EBMM Steve Morse Y2D Hardtail:
“The SMY2D celebrates the 20th anniversary of signature Music Man artist Steve Morse. Combining the beautiful elegance of figured maple with the distinctively voiced Poplar tone-wood, custom Dimarzio pickups, and simplified intuitive pickup arrangement, the SMY2D delivers the feel and playability one would expect from such a high caliber instrument but more importantly retains all the unique signature elements Steve has relied upon throughout his amazing career. “
