Instrument Categories: Mandolins, SOLD
Eastman MD515 mandolins are a high quality yet reasonably priced rendering of the classic Gibson F-style instruments introduced in the 1920s during Lloyd Loar’s tenure at Gibson. One of Orville Gibson’s radical innovations was to bring violin family construction principles into the world of guitars and mandolins, leading directly to the arched top instruments that are commonplace today.
The Eastman MD515 models are part of Eastman’s entry level instrument lines, but that doesn’t mean that they have skimped on quality, just on decoration. We have carried these models since at least 2010, and our original feature of the MD-515 with an audio demo is here. Built with a solid carved Spruce top and solid carved Maple back, with Maple for the sides and neck and Ebony for the head plate and fingerboard, the MD515 is bound only on the top and fingerboard, though the Left Handed model seen here is not bound. Inlays are limited to Mother of Pearl dots, and an acrylic Eastman logo at the headstock.
Two versions of the Eastman MD515 are offered, with the core instrument being the same for both. The MD-515 comes with Nickel plated hardware and gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish, and as pictured here, the higher-priced MD-515/V with Antique Varnish finish and antiqued Nickel plated hardware.
The MD-515/V is available in Right or Left Handed models. The lower -priced MD-515 retails for $1410, but is currently unavailable.
The original Eastman hard shell case is included.
