The Eastman E10 OOSS is a rebuild of a classic – the OO body shape with an Adirondack Spruce top and Mahogany back, sides and neck with Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. This design comes from the 1898 Martin OO18, which was built until 1995, and again since 2006 with a few variations.
The OO body is a bit larger and louder than the ‘Parlor Guitar’ size, and closer to the volume of a classical guitar body. These are known as being tonally very well balanced, with good clarity and separation between notes. They make excellent fingerstyle guitars.
In this case, the guitar’s top is Adirondack Spruce, which was the wood most often used for instruments before WW2. Over-harvesting led to a switch to Sitka Spruce. Adirondack stocks are recovering and is being used more often. Sitka is a bit stiffer and has tighter, more even grain structure. Adirondack however tends to retain a sweetness when played very hard. Following pre-war models, the braces are hand scalloped to improve responsiveness. Unlike any of the older models, it has a double-acting truss rod, meaning that it can work in either direction, putting bow into a neck as well as taking it out.
Eastman is one of the largest instrument manufacturers, and produce many violin family models as well as guitars. Their guitars are solid wood, with nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, but without the higher prices of US built models.
This Eastman E10 OOSS dates to 2015 and is in very clean condition with very minor wear and no damage of any kind. It’s a very comfortable guitar to play, and sounds great with lots of definition.
The original hard shell case is included.
