This is a new Eastman AC822CE-FF Fan Fret Guitar, built with a solid Engelmann spruce top, rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and bridge, and has a LR Baggs Anthem system.
The idea of the Fan Fret design is to provide a different scale length for each string, improving string-to-string tonal and tension balance and intonation.
The Fan Fret concept is very old. The Bandora, dating to the 1560’s, used the fanned spacing to provide longer scale lengths on the bass strings. In 1900, E. A. Edgren patented an instrument using fanned spacing.
The modern resurgence of the fan fret design owes much to Ralph Novak of Novax Guitars. 26 years ago, in 1989, Novak patented a multi-scale length system based on the fan fret idea and formed Novax guitars, and is now located in Eugene, Oregon.
The Eastman AC822CE-FF Fan Fret guitar was designed by renowned Italian guitar maker Fabio Ragghianti. This instrument features a sound port on the upper bout for a spacious ambient voice. The ergonomically correct fanned fret design intonates perfectly and balances brilliantly.
