The Duesenberg Fullerton TV is named after two things – Duesenberg’s US office in Fullerton, California – the former home of Fender – and the TV white finish used on Gibson guitars to help them show up on black and white televisions.
Following the established Duesenberg essentials, spruce and maple are used for the Duesenberg Fullerton TV’s main body parts. The arched spruce top is combined with bent sides and arched back made from flamed maple and is perfected with a deluxe 5-ply cream binding around the body. As with almost any other Duesenberg, the Fullerton TV sports a one-piece neck made from American Hardrock Maple which is fitted with a 12″ radius Indian Rosewood fretboard. There are two models in the Fullerton line – the TV, seen here, and the CC, with a larger body and black finish.
Here we’re looking at a Duesenberg Fullerton TV dated on its label to 25 Mai 2011, and coming from Germany. This example is in good clean condition, with some light tarnish to the nickel plating but very little wear otherwise. Fret and finish wear are very light. As happens with lacquer finishes, the white TV finish fades to a creamy yellow over time.
This guitar plays well, as expected for having been through a PLEK system, and the Duesenberg Diamond Deluxe vibrato tailpiece is very smooth and responsive , and the string-mount blocks on the string bar are a dramatic improvement for string changes. The locking tuners and well-cut nut help keep the guitar in tune.
More From the Builder On The Duesenberg Fullerton TV and CC:
“Both body shapes in the Fullerton Series are semi-hollow. Semi-hollow guitars deliver a unique and open response suitable for any genre and the solid centerblock effectively blocks feedback on stage.
The Fullerton Series comes fitted with our renowned Diamond Deluxe Vibrato unit. Known for its outstanding tuning stability, easy adjustability and effortless string changes, this Vibrato unit leaves nothing to be desired.
A Plek processed fretboard guarantees perfectly level frets. This is the basis for our fret polishing and setup work that eventually makes all our instruments play like nothing you have ever played before.
The Fullerton Series incorporates the same careful selection of spruce and maple for the main body parts as on many other of our instruments. The laminated arched spruce top is combined with flamed maple bent sides and arched back, while the neck is made from American Hardrock maple.
Our acclaimed set of pickups, the Domino P90 for the neck and Grand Vintage Humbucker for the bridge, delivers outstanding definition and clarity and a unique tone you won’t find anywhere else.”
And a description of the Duesenberg Diamond Deluxe vibrato tailpiece:
“Buttery smooth action, reliable tuning stability and string changes that are a breeze are just the main aspects of our unique vibrato design.
The Diamond Deluxe gives you the best tone while being lightweight. Heavy duty needle and nylon bearings give you the highly responsive Duesenberg feel when using the vibrato arm. The arm itself can be turned freely for 360° and can be adjusted to your preferred angle and length. The strings are simply guided through the holes in the bar underneath the arm-axis and can be lead to the tuners without any hassle.
Proven daily on the stages of this world.”
The original Duesenberg hard shell case is included.
