Brand: David Wren
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
Built during 1979 in Toronto, this David Wren steel string guitar illustrates Wren’s continually developing skill. At this point, he had been building professionally for four years, starting with Jean Larrivee along with other now-prominent builders including William Laskin and Linda Manzer. The guitar shows the clear influence of Larrivee’s designs, which were in turn influenced by Edgar Monch’s classical guitars. David Wren retired in late 2020, after 45 years of guitar building.
Here we’re looking a David Wren steel string guitar with a Red Cedar top, paired with Indian Rosewood for the back, sides and head plate, Mahogany for the body blocks and neck, and Ebony for the bound neck and pedestal bridge. The inlay set is a combination of flowers and birds (wrens!) in Mother of Pearl and Abalone. The tuners are gold-plated Grover models; the nut and saddle are bone. There are no electronics and no cutaway. The tone is full, rich and well balanced with plenty of projection and power.
This guitar is in overall good shape and has been recently serviced and set up at The Twelfth Fret repair shop. In addition to the setup, the back received a finish repair, which is visible in the rear photograph as a darker area. The repairs were only to the finish, no structural or crack work was required.
The original hard shell case is included.
