Brand: Mills Banjos
Instrument Categories: Banjos, SOLD
This Mills 5 String open back banjo comes to us from Dave Mills of Creemore, Ontario, who also works closely with Bill Rickard of Rickard Banjos in Aurora, Ontario.
This neatly constructed Dave Mills 5 string openback banjo uses a Fiberskyn head on a 12 inch pot with a spun-over Maple rim and Dobson-style tone ring, and a 3-piece Maple neck with an Ebony fingerboard that carries a frailing scoop. The Maple used on the rim and neck has a very convincing Cherry stain – so convincing that even our repair shop staff thought it was cherry from a short distance! The head uses a traditional ‘paddle’ outline.
The fingerboard of this Mills 5 String has Mother of Pearl dot position markers and is fitted with Jescar EVO fretwire, which has a gold hue and is harder and thus longer lasting than standard fretwire.
For other components, Rickard 4:1 tuners are at the head with a Gotoh 5th string peg, and a reproduction No-Knot tailpiece is installed. The bridge is shimmed slightly, to account for a fairly steep neck set – this gives more pressure at the head, making it work harder.
This instrument is built of top quality parts and is very well assembled and set up, and plays well.
This banjo is sold without case.
