The Danelectro 59 12 String D5912 recreates a classic 12. Originally successful in its orientation as a decent budget instrument, these new models at least as good.
Based closely on the original double cutaway ‘Shorthorn’ two pickup models, the new Danelectro 59 12 String D5912 features the same ‘Masonite’ and hardwood body construction with a Maple neck and Pau Ferro fingerboard. As a 12 sting model, the D5912 gets a fully adjustable, 12 saddle bridge allowing full control over action height and intonation. This is a dramatic improvement! Of course, this model sports a pair of ‘Lipstick’ pickups, called that because the originals used low-cost lipstick tubes as pickup housings. Controls are simple – a 3-way pickup selector, and Master Volume and Tone controls.
The Danelectro 59 12 String D5912 is a well made and reasonably priced guitar, a great choice for anyone who needs to have a 12 string on hand. The ‘Lipstick’ pickups tend to be lower output, which adds to high end and upper mids, just about exactly what you need for a 12.
